About Us

Picture
Founded in 2004, PushPULL Dance is a company of adult dancers from a variety of backgrounds, who share a common passion for dance through performing and enhancing our individual dance repertoires. Many of us have busy vocations or demanding commitments that keep us busy "in real life" but we come together for our love of dance and performance.

What we represent

We value diversity, creativity, community, and camaraderie.

We strive to be inclusive by welcoming technically proficient dancers as well as individuals with minimal training but who have a passion for dance performance and a willingness to commit to learning dance at a required level. PushPULL welcomes adult dancers of any age, gender, culture, or body type.

To date, PushPULL has featured an expansive range of dance styles including jazz, contemporary, modern, ballet, tap, hip hop, swing, salsa, African, Bollywood, and traditional Chinese dance.

Through the diversity of our members, we are able to create shows that embody a variety of dance styles.

We encourage you to read more about Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Belonging for more information.

Where we are

PushPULL originally launched in Toronto, Ontario and founded its Ottawa company in 2014. The Ottawa company performs its annual shows in May, and the Toronto company in June.

Both companies run their respective auditions in September, so make sure to check our Auditions page for company-specific audition notices if you're interested in joining!

Board of Directors

PushPULL Dance Inc.'s board of directors are elected members of our Ottawa and Toronto companies. These individuals  provide strategic guidance and ensure that our not-for-profit organization adheres to the highest ethical and financial standards.

The members of PushPULL Dance would like to acknowledge with humility and respect that we dance on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Mississauga, Haudenosaunee and Huron-Wendat peoples, as well as on the unceded Anishinaabe Algonquin territory.  We acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa peoples.  We honour and recognize the enduring presence of all First Nations, Métis and Inuit, as well as all First Peoples worldwide. As with all things meaningful, words matter, but actions matter more. Let these words be a reminder of the work that is still to be done.
